About This Quote

In the midst of a war, there is a great deal of hatred between the two sides. It is only natural that the enemy would be hated and despised by people on both sides. However, it is not natural that you should feel good about the enemy. In fact, it is better to hate the enemy than to love them.

In this quote from Mark Twain, he explains why hatred is a more appropriate emotion than love when it comes to confronting an enemy. The reason being that hatred can be used for good and love cannot.
